Contact wire thickness 4.0

With the DTK “Contact Wire Strength” system, more than 5,000 kilometers of differently constructed contact lines have now been tested by numerous European transport companies.

Measured variables recorded:

  • Contact wire wear (remaining height/remaining area)
  • Contact wire contour (even with several contact wires)
  • Contact wire angle (twist)
  • Contact wire height (rises/descents)
  • Side position (zigzag)
  • Shocks between pantograph and overhead line
  • Position on the route (GPS coordinates and route)
  • speed

and optionally:

  • Current and voltage
  • Temperature (thermography measurement).

Advantages

Comprehensive, user-friendly evaluation software displays the actual contact wire contour from the data recorded by the laser scanners and enables a visual comparison with the target contour. This method is much more reliable than measuring the grinding surface or the remaining thickness from the side, as the contact wires are often twisted. With a contact wire angle of 45°, such measuring methods result in a measurement error of 100% (residual thickness from the side) or 68% (measurement of the mirror).

Evaluations

The evaluation software helps the user to find significant events, such as falling below the specified minimum thickness of the installed contact wire, exceeding the zigzag (side position) or excessive rises and falls and much more.
Recording the GPS data enables the deviations to be conveniently displayed on a map view. It is also possible to export the data to your own databases or for further use. You can freely determine whether, for example, only a specific area or all data should be exported.
