Start Third Rail Wear

Measurement System Third Rail Wear

Description: The DTK-Measurement-System to record the third rail's wear
is a mobile system that can be pulled or pushed with up to 50 km/h (30mph)
through the rail.

Laser units record the power rail's shape thus the third rail's condition can
be measured. An differential GPS (outside of tunnels) and a gyroscope make
it possible to connect the position of the DTK-System with the
measurement-data.

picture 1: DTK-vehicle with the measurement system. The system can also be built on a normal train.
In that picture the third rail's wear was recorded. Many other measurement systems can be built on the DTK-vehicle.

picture 2: The picture shows the video and laser units during measurement.
row 1 - left and middle: Laser line on rails, right: Laser line on the left power rail
row 2 - left: Laser line on the right power rail, middle: Video of the laser unit left,
right: Video of the laser unit right
row 3 - left: Video of the DTK-vehicle
For every recorded point the pictures (or videos for a section) can be shown after measurement for example to locate interrupts.

picture 3: The very comfortable software allows with all its evaluation methods a very fast overview of the track. The diagrams are in a variable scale, color etc. You can fit nearly everything to your wishes.
Extreme points can be shown in a evaluation table. To the measurement you'll get the software with a license.

picture 4: The recorded shape gets displayed on a mm-raster.
The calculation from the laser line to the shape is made by the computer.
The new-rail-shape can be overlayed in the picture to see the kind of wear.
The software already shows the size of the wear in the diagramm.
Therefore you can force on extreme points.

picture 5: The different kind of wear gives information about the causation of the wear.
The shown profiles in the picture are (from left to right) a too small lateral distance
a too high lateral distance (between vehicle and powerrail) a too high and a too low fixed current collector.

picture 6: The quality of the measurement is periodically controlled with the checking gauge.
You'll get more information in the measurement report.
